What is School-Based Teacher Training?
It is a programme where schools recruit trainees directly and select them to train and work within their school. Schools therefore have more control over the quality of training that is provided and how it is delivered.

The course enables trainees to fully experience and be involved in day to day school life throughout the school year, not simply on designated teaching placements.

Training Route
The training route is open to all graduates funded by tuition fees paid by the graduate. Our School Direct training pathway will lead to QTS and a PGCE.

We work with Black Country primary schools who are Ofsted graded good or outstanding. We have direct access to a National English Hub, expert input of phonics and English training and current relevant input of theory and practice from subject co-ordinators in schools and from Newman. Successful completion of the course leads to employment.

We work in partnership with Birmingham Newman University and interview with Newman colleagues to take students who want to work in the primary sector and who want to gain hands-on experience as they train.

Training includes in-school training led by classroom teachers in our partnership, to support your learning from safeguarding to phonics; behaviour management to planning and assessment.
